Abstract

Kamandin saebo is a plant that is believed to contain secondary metabolites that have antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of kamandin saebo extract against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, to determine the effect of the catalase peroxidase test on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, and to determine the best concentration of kamandin saebo extract in suppressing the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The method used was disc diffusion and analysis using SPSS. From this method, what is obtained is the presence or absence of a clear area formed around the paper disc which indicates an inhibition zone for the growth of the test bacteria. The solvent used was 96% ethanol and the concentrations used were 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%. The results of this study were that the kamandin saebo extract using 96% ethanol solvent produced a yield of 3.82%, and Staphylococcus aureus is classified as a bacteria that can break down H2O2 into oxygen with the presence of air bubbles in the catalase peroxidase test. The largest inhibition zone was formed at a concentration of 40% with an inhibition zone diameter of 10 mm. From the SPSS data, it shows that a significant value of 0.40 <0.5 was obtained, which means that the antibacterial activity of the kamandin saebo extract can suppress the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
