This study aims to describe the integration of literacy and numeracy through project-based learning using environmental media, specifically stone grouping activities, in early childhood education. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach conducted at BA Aisyiyah Sidowayah, involving early childhood learners as subjects. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and field notes during project-based activities such as collecting, grouping, counting, and presenting stones. The data were analyzed descriptively to identify the development of children’s literacy and numeracy skills. The results showed that project-based learning using environmental materials effectively supported the integration of literacy and numeracy, as children demonstrated improvement in classifying objects, counting quantities, understanding size comparison, and expressing ideas verbally. These activities also increased children’s engagement and participation in learning. This study implies that simple environment-based project activities can be effectively implemented to support integrated literacy and numeracy development in early childhood education.
ika sulastri, Erni Mastina Novianti, Erlin Yanu Astuti Copyright (c) 2026 ika sulastri https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/starkids/article/view/1177 Fri, 31 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Praktik Digital Parenting pada Anak Usia Dini di Era Digital: Studi Kualitatif di Dusun Malaka Timur https://journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/starkids/article/view/1246
The rapid development of digital technology has increased young children's exposure to smartphones and internet-based media, making parental guidance essential in ensuring safe and developmentally appropriate digital experiences. This study aimed to describe the implementation of digital parenting practices among parents of early childhood children in East Malaka Hamlet, Jaddung Village, Pragaan District. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving parents of children aged 4–6 years as the main informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed three major forms of digital parenting. First, parents regulated children's screen time by limiting the duration of smartphone use and accompanying children while using digital devices. Second, parents selected age-appropriate educational content and implemented household rules regarding smartphone use, such as requiring children to complete learning or religious activities before accessing digital media. Third, although most parents relied on direct supervision, only a few had utilized parental control applications due to limited digital literacy. These findings indicate that digital parenting in East Malaka Hamlet emphasizes active parental involvement through supervision, guidance, communication, and rule-setting rather than relying solely on technological control. Strengthening parents' digital literacy is therefore essential to optimize digital parenting practices and promote the healthy use of digital technology among young children.

Keywords: Word 1; digital parenting; early childhood; parental supervision; gadget use; qualitative study
Aminatul Ijtimaiyah, Maimunatul Munamah, Itaul Hasanah Copyright (c) 2026 Aminatul Ijtimaiyah, Maimunatul Munamah, Itaul Hasanah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/starkids/article/view/1246 Fri, 31 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Implementasi Pembelajaran Berbasis STEAM untuk Meningkatkan Kecerdasan Logis-Matematis Anak Usia Dini https://journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/starkids/article/view/1258

Purpose: This study aims to explore patterns of children’s screen time use, forms of parental supervision, cognitive development outcomes, and supporting and inhibiting factors for parents in accompanying their children’s screen time at RA Siti Khodijah, Karangrowo Wonosalam Demak. Methods: A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews with six parents, two class A2 teachers (Bunda Nur and Bunda Khoir), and the head of RA (Bunda Muayadah), complemented by direct observation of several children. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model and validated through source and technique triangulation. Results: Findings reveal that children are exposed to an average of two to four hours of screen time daily, predominantly through smartphones, and parental supervision ranges from active co-viewing to minimal monitoring. Children who received consistent parental guidance demonstrated stronger cognitive indicators, including improved attention, richer vocabulary, better memory, and more developed problem-solving abilities. Supporting factors included parental awareness and motivation, while inhibiting factors comprised limited digital literacy, demanding work schedules, and the addictive nature of digital content. Conclusion: The novelty of this study lies in its contextually grounded analysis of how parental accompaniment specifically shapes cognitive development outcomes in an Islamic kindergarten setting in rural Central Java, offering insights into culturally responsive strategies for digital parenting in early childhood education.
Khoiriyatus Sa'adah; Fu'ad Arif Noor Copyright (c) 2026 Khoiriyatus Sa'adah; Fu'ad Arif Noor https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/starkids/article/view/1187 Fri, 31 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Pemerolehan Bahasa Pada Anak Usia Dini: Analisis Teoretis dan Dinamika Faktor Lingkungan dalam Perspektif Studi Literatur Kontemporer (2021-2026) https://journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/starkids/article/view/1175
Language acquisition in early childhood is one of the most complex cognitive wonders, involving a rapid and systematic process of internalizing symbol systems during the golden age. This article aims to theoretically analyze the mechanisms of language acquisition and map the dynamics of environmental factors through a contemporary literature review perspective spanning 2021–2026. The research method employed is a systematic library research of accredited national and international journals (Sinta and Scopus) utilizing the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) framework. Analysis results indicate that while humans possess an innate biological potential known as the Language Acquisition Device (LAD), successful development heavily relies on the quality of social interaction or the Language Acquisition Support System (LASS). In the digital era, the use of information technology presents a paradox; on one hand, it can enhance literacy through interactive educational content, yet on the other, it poses a risk of speech delay and social isolation if not actively mediated by parents. Early childhood education (PAUD) institutions play a vital role in providing a secondary social environment through scaffolding strategies and play-based learning to optimize children's communicative competence. This article concludes that the synergy between high-quality family stimulation, inclusive school environments, and wise digital media management is the primary key to supporting holistic language development in children.
Hevi Kurniasih, Umi Faizah Copyright (c) 2026 Hevi Kurniasih, Umi Faizah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/starkids/article/view/1175 Fri, 31 Jul 2026 00:00:00 +0000
