Peer Review Process
Description
Manuscripts should be prepared following the Author Guidelines. If submissions do not comply with all requirements, are incorrectly formatted, or cannot be reliably downloaded, they may be returned to the authors without undergoing a scientific evaluation.
Contributions must represent the original, independent work of the authors. The Principal Editor evaluates each new submission to determine its relevance to the focus of Assuq: International Journal of Islamic Economic Studies. We will reject a manuscript without review if it lacks sufficient content, exceeds the word limit, is poorly formatted, or is unclear in presentation. Those manuscripts that pass the initial evaluation will be overseen by the Principal Editor or Associate Editor as they manage the review process concerning contribution, originality, relevance, and presentation.
Once a manuscript successfully completes the initial checks, it will be reviewed by at least two independent experts through a double-blind peer review process, where reviewers do not know the authors’ identities, and vice versa. Comments from peer reviewers remain confidential and will only be disclosed with the explicit consent of the reviewer. All submissions undergo peer review, and authors can anticipate a decision or an update regarding any delays within 2 months of submission. If invited to revise, the corresponding author should return the revised manuscript within 2 weeks. The Principal Editors will make the final decision based on insights gained during the peer review process.
We ensure that the peer-reviewed manuscript is kept confidential prior to publication, as outlined in our publication ethics.
Types of Decision
There are four types of editorial decisions that may occur during the peer review process, which include:
a. Decline submission
After peer review, the paper is deemed unsuitable for publication in Assuq: International Journal of Islamic Economic Studies, and resubmission is not an option.
b. Resubmit for Review
The current version of the manuscript is not acceptable and requires significant revisions. However, there is evident potential in the work, and Assuq: International Journal of Islamic Economic Studies is willing to consider a revised version. Authors will have the opportunity to submit their paper as a new submission. Concerns regarding the paper’s suitability for publication will persist until editors are convinced that it aligns with the scope and standards of Assuq: International Journal of Islamic Economic Studies. If possible, the resubmitted manuscript will be returned to the original associate editor.
c. Revision
The manuscript requires modifications before a final decision can be made. Authors are requested to adjust their manuscript based on the feedback from referees and editors and to submit a new version for consideration within 2 weeks of receiving the decision letter. A detailed response addressing each comment must be included with the revised manuscript. Revisions may go through additional rounds of peer review, and manuscripts might undergo more than one revision process. If authors do not manage to revise their papers to meet the satisfaction of the editors, the manuscript can still be rejected for publication in Assuq: International Journal of Islamic Economic Studies.
d, Accept submission
The manuscript is approved for publication, subject to amendments that need to be made in preparing a final version. These may include minor editorial changes to ensure that the paper fully meets our criteria. After final checks at the editorial office, acceptance is confirmed, and the paper is sent to the publishers for publication.
Galley Proof
Page proofs will be forwarded to the corresponding author for final review. Corrections to the proofs should be limited to printer errors; any additional modifications to the text, equations, or grammar may incur charges to the author. Proofs need to be returned to the editors within three days of receipt to reduce the chance of the author's submission being postponed to a later issue. The editors are not liable for the accuracy of the content once published. It is the author’s duty to verify the content during the proof stage.
