Plagiarism Policy

Statement and Policy

Assuq: International Journal of Islamic Economic Studies (AIJIES) enforces a strict non-tolerance stance against plagiarism and has established the following policy that outlines specific consequences (penalties) if plagiarism is detected in a submitted article intended for publication in the journal.

Definition: Plagiarism refers to the "utilization or close replication of another author's language and ideas while presenting them as one’s original work."

Policy: Submitted papers must be original, not published previously, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Any content directly copied from another source must be distinguished from the original text by (1) indentation, (2) quotation marks, and (3) proper citation of the source.

Any text exceeding fair use guidelines (defined here as more than two or three sentences or their equivalent) or any graphical content obtained from another source necessitates obtaining permission from the copyright owner and, when possible, the original author(s), along with citation of the source, e.g., a prior publication.

All papers submitted will be assessed for similarity through Turnitin.

When plagiarism is found, the principal editor will evaluate the paper and determine actions based on the severity of the plagiarism as outlined in the following criteria:

Similarity Level

Assuq: International Journal of Islamic Economic Studies (AIJIES) maintains a strict no-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. We utilize Turnitin to assess the similarity index, after which the editor will address potential plagiarism (a similarity report will be provided to the author). The editorial board has established the following responses:

    1. Similarity Index above 40%: Article Declined (due to inadequate citation and/or poor paraphrasing, the article will be outright rejected, and NO RESUBMISSION will be permitted).
    2. Similarity Index (15-40%): Return to the author for revisions (all instances of similarity must have correct citations provided, and effective paraphrasing is required even if citations are given).
    3. Similarity Index Less than 10%: Accepted or citation revisions may be necessary (complete citations need to be provided for all external texts).
    4. In cases 2 and 3, the authors must thoroughly revise the article, include necessary citations, and effectively paraphrase any external texts. They must then resubmit the article along with a new Turnitin report indicating NO PLAGIARISM and a similarity index below 15%.
